A Life Well Lived
A Life Well Lived
Mossie, Rainbow Bridge February 2010 three weeks before her eleventh birthday.
As you all know this winter has been a very hard one for us as we have already said goodbye to two old friends, Rob and Jake. But in February I said the final goodnight to my little Mossie and I have to tell you I have really struggled with this and have had to wait several weeks before letting anyone other than close friends know about her.
Sadly I had to make the decision to let her go while she was under anaesthetic for an operation, one of the worst decisions to have to make.
Mossie nearly died as a puppy, she had fluid in her lungs, was very weak and her chances of survival had been slim. But Mossie was a fighter, she may have been very tiny and with big ears that earned her the nickname Gismo from friends, but she was a very happy and very patient little dog. She handled her illness both as a puppy and at the end with a quiet dignity and will always be remembered for her fun loving ways.
Mossie worked sheep with sensitivity and was the Corporate Collies 'secretary' on our team building days. She demonstrated Fight or Flight distance at workshops and seminars and delighted people with her gentle ball rolling expertise and never failed to amuse everyone with her very vocal disapproval of those who failed to get the hang of her game.
Talks and After Dinner events were her speciality and she could adapt to whichever function I took her to. Calm and in control at a corporate event, entertaining at a social function and impeccable manners at workshops and seminars.
But above all Mossie was my little pal. She slept on my bed, usually at my right shoulder and no amount of protesting could ever move her. She'd just look at me and sigh and go back to sleep. But that little body was very comforting even though she was never actually a cuddly dog.
Mossie was without doubt a great ambassador for her breed being able to adapt to any situation, and in later years, as my old Hope has become hard of hearing, she had become my little guard dog letting me know whenever anyone came into the yard - and sometimes bringing me out of the office when there was nobody in the yard - just because she could!
To my Mossie, one of the greatest little dogs I have ever been privileged to know and now with her family organising my life from the other side of the Bridge.
