Country rides is part of a family run business established at Golcar farm, which has been in our family for almost a century and has seen many changes over the years. Primarily always run as a stock farm, over the years we have diversified into other areas. Mainline Border Collie Centre and Country Rides are now the main focus although we do still run it as a small sheep farm. So with sheep, too many Border collies to mention, horses and of course not forgetting the occasional stray picked up along the way such as Larry the lamb we are kept busy. Larry was orphaned as a baby and, having been hand reared by myself and the horses, is now convinced he is a horse and will no longer live with the sheep. There is always plenty to keep us busy and no two days are ever the same.

I have worked with horses almost all my life in one way or another and I throughly enjoy my job. But it has not always been my full times occupation as I have spent some time in the business world. However, preferring a stable to a desk, for the past five years I have been able to establish Country Rides as my full time business along with my work for mainline and on the farm.

As Harvey Smith's racing stable neighbours our land I also took the opportunity to ride out for him for some time, it was a great experience to work behind the scenes in the racing world. As the gallops run right past our land and on the edge of the moor there is always the opportunity to see the race horses training in the morning, which is a lovely sight to start your day with.

My horses are not just part of my business they are a part of my animal 'family' and I ride them all myself regularly, therefore feel I know them inside out and am able to identify with their characters which enables me to match these characters to their riders.
